We cannot always change the criminals but we can change the ways they effect our society by gaining control and having the knowledge that could make a difference.   There are crimes that are committed by family members and  there are the crimes that are committed by those that have a path to their madness and do not discriminate.  Everyone is a potential victim of this type of criminal known as a psychopath or sociopath.

BE AWARE OF YOUR PHYSICAL SURROUNDINGS
Make the effort to look around you and let people know you are on guard.

BE AWARE OF YOUR EMOTIONAL SURROUNDINGS
Listen to your instincts.

IF IN DOUBT, CHECK EM' OUT
Protect yourself by utilizing available information.  Be sure your information comes from a reliable source.

WHEN HIRING "IN HOME HELP"   CLEANING / HEALTH CARE / CHILD CARE

You should know who you are hiring.
If you hire a service provider ask them if they pre screen their employees with a criminal background check.  Find out what their source is for reliability.  Although nobody can guarantee the actions of another person it can provide a sense of security.

SCREENING APPLICANTS FOR YOUR BUSINESS
No matter what type or size industry you should know who you are hiring.  Your employees may or may not have contact with customers but chances are  they  have contact with you and your employees.  Statistics show that  1 of every 7 employees have a hidden crime history meaning the employer did not run a criminal background check to find the available and public information.  Do not forget that someone with a conviction has been found guilty of a crime or the record would not be there to begin with.

WHAT IF YOUR APPLICANT ADMITS TO A PAST CRIME?
SHOULD YOU HIRE OR NOT?
It should depend on the circumstances.  A conviction history will show everything from a drug/alcohol charge to murder.  A separate arrest record shows all arrests in most cases.  It may vary from state to state.

It is known that some businesses require an applicant to have a clean criminal record in order to obtain a job with the company and is common in the security industry. Those business that have a high employee turn over may consider hiring someone with a past criminal record and is at the discretion of the employer.

ONE THING LEADS TO ANOTHER
Drug/Alcohol Abusers
People with serious drug or alcohol problems can have tendencies to commit crimes to support their habit.

IE:        Someone with a serious drug problem who needs a fix can learn how to ignore their conscience to get what they need.
